Kingston gets $3.2-million 'reward' for exceeding housing starts

KINGSTON — The city is to get $3.2 million from the provincial government as a reward for exceeding its 2023 target for housing starts.

Kingston receives $27 million from federal housing fund

KINGSTON — The city is to receive more than $27 million over three years from the federal government to build new housing.

New housing rules could hit Kingston-area municipalities

The More Homes Built Faster Act was passed on Monday, and an information report to be presented to city council next week showed the new rules could greatly reduce the amount of money the city collects to fund critical infrastructure.
Instead, the report stated, the money saved by the reduction of development charges — fees paid by builders for infrastructure related to city services such as water, sewers, roads and electricity for new neighbourhoods — would likely just be pocketed by developers.
